By: Senior Greg Collins

Women’s head soccer coach Victor Garcia-Bebek has departed from Friends University to settle across Kellogg at Newman University.

Garcia-Bebek has ties with Newman University, where he graduated in 2003. He spent seven years as assistant coach for the men’s team from 2002-2009. He has accepted the job as the new women’s soccer coach for the Jets.

During his three-year stint at Friends, Garcia-Bebek posted a 22-27 record and produced 17 all-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference players. During his time at Friends, Bebek made the semi-final game of the KCAC tournament in his first two seasons.

“He was a great coach and a great mentor during my time here at Friends,” said Erika Choriego, senior.

Bebek not only led the team on the field but in school as well. He provided the KCAC with 14 NAIA scholar athletes.

“My grades have never been better,” said Lindsay Lopez, sophomore. “He pushed education before soccer.”

Friends is in the process of finding a new head coach. There was no initial response from administrators about when a new head coach will be appointed
